The first is a Showa period cast copper vase in the form of a Chinese gourd, made in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, a region long known for its bronze casting tradition. It has a refined dark patina, a well-balanced silhouette, and a mark on the underside. The gourd motif represents longevity, prosperity, and protection and has been favoured in both art and tea culture. It comes with its original wooden box, signed and sealed by Ichinose Soshin. The Ichinose family has been active since the Meiji period, producing fine metalwork across several generations and earning awards at major national exhibitions. The second vase is by Hori Masaharu, the twelfth-generation Hori Yamashiro kettle master. A maker’s mark is found on the underside, and the vase is accompanied by its signed wooden box. Both vases show patina and age-related wear. The Hori Masaharu vase has interior corrosion and rust at the base, and minor blemishes are visible on both pieces.
