Eight Volumes of Hitozuma Eros Nobuyoshi Araki Futabasha/1998/Japanese/185*235*18 The collection “Hitozuma Eros” by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. His recent work was published in the June 2024 issue of the magazine “Switch Last Waltz: The Dawn of Photography, The End of Photography.” These are landscapes captured with a Polaroid camera from his hospital bed. Since 2000, Araki has faced the loss of sight in his right eye, a near-fatal stroke, and most recently, back surgery. Currently undergoing rehabilitation, he has begun photographing again from his hospital room. Encouraging him and urging him to shoot is Switch editor-in-chief Toshiki Arai. While Switch has featured Araki extensively over the years, the magazine Shukan Taishu has also published his work extensively. He completed over 1,000 photo shoots for them, compiled into over 20 volumes under the title “Eros of Married Women.” These are quintessentially Araki works: human, capturing the lives of amateur women, and portraying them beautifully in a way only he could achieve.
