Yasuhiro Ishimoto - Chicago, Chicago 2 - 1983

Chicago, Chicago Part 2 / Chicago, Chicago" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012). Ishimoto was born in San Francisco, lived in Kochi from 1924 to 1939, and returned to the U.S. alone, graduating from the Department of Architecture at Northwestern University in Chicago and the Department of Photography at the Institute of Design (commonly known as the New Bauhaus, merged with the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1949) in 1952. After returning to Japan, he stayed in Chicago from 1958 to 1961, and in 1969 published "Chicago, Chicago," a collection of photographs taken during his two stays, one as a student and the other after graduation, which is still highly regarded today as a masterpiece in the history of Japanese photography. This book includes photographs taken during a return visit to Chicago in 1982, in addition to those previously unpublished in the previous book. His excellent sense of form and refined sensibility can naturally be seen in this book as well. Although "Chicago, Chicago" is scarce and may be difficult to obtain, the appeal of this book is that it makes it easy to enjoy Ishimoto's photographs from the same period.
