The wine
The Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was created in 1975, on the tenth anniversary of his death. This champagne pays tribute to Churchill, a friend of the Maison Pol Roger family. It combines all the qualities the Prime Minister valued in champagne: dynamism, backbone, and maturity. The composition, which remains a secret, was created entirely according to the spirit and personality of Winston Churchill.
Its color is a wonderful old gold, its fizz is lively and subtle, and its nose is energetic, with aromas of dried fruit, intoxicating floral scents, and notes of sweet pastries. The palate is lush, slightly honeyed, and delicately spiced.
The Pol Roger Estate
The Pol Roger Champagne House was founded in 1849 in Aÿ before relocating to Epernay two years later. The brand has experienced rapid international success, particularly in the British and American markets. It is said that Winston Churchill even called Pol Roger the most delicious champagne in the world! The cuvée bearing his name was launched in 1975. The house has its own 92-hectare vineyard, with plots located in the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne regions. The grapes purchased externally are selected with the utmost meticulousness. This house, which has remained independent and family-owned, is one of the "small" large Champagne houses in terms of production volume. It is one of very few houses that continues to rid its bottles by hand. The champagnes produced here are of high quality, consistency, and precision. In addition to their exemplary consistency, they are also distinguished by their vinosity, depth, and roundness. They often age for extended periods in the house's cellars and can be kept for many years afterward.
