2 preamplifiers, (photos 16 to 85)
1 wooden box, (photos 86 to 98)
1 octal plug cord (photos 99 to 104)
Mono preamplifiers that must be powered by a McIntosh tube mono amplifier or a DYNACO ST-70 stereo amplifier or a separate D 8 or D 8A power supply, (photo 104), connection diagrams, (photo 105).
Operation of preamplifiers:
It takes two cords. A power cord that plugs into the wall (110 or 220 volts). And another (umbilical cord) that has octal plugs at each end. The power cord: • It supplies AC power to the switched outlets located at the back of the preamp. The amplifier can use one of these outlets because it does not have its own power switch. • It also lights up the red "on" indicator. • That's about all the power cord does for the preamp. It does not power the preamp's circuits. The "umbilical" cord: • It powers the three tubes and audio circuits of the preamp from the power transformer of the amplifier. This includes the filaments/cathodes of the tubes, as well as the DC current to the audio circuits (the preamp has its own selenium rectifier for this purpose, but it is common practice to replace it with a silicon diode type for safety reasons.)
Model C8S: Allows you to control the stereo signal! (photos 16 to 53)
