Neolithic Flint Large Neolithic pick-axe (No Reserve Price)
Beautifully crafted pickaxe made from local flint from Spiennes and surrounding areas. Typical of the Middle Neolithic Michelsberg culture. These tools were used among other things to dig in the chalk layers where flint nodules, an important raw material during the Neolithic, were found. The site of Spiennes near Mons is world-famous for its large number of flint mines and is one of the largest exploitations of this product in Europe. The modern local museum is definitely worth a visit.
