"The book reveals photographs taken between 1985 and 1995 (the last decade of communist rule in Lithuania) that were used as visual material and inspiration for the paintings. In the photographs, we find a surreal Soviet-era setting. Algis Griskevicius's constructive gaze refines the Soviet architectural landscape toward symmetrical compositions and transforms them into certain sculptural compositions. The introductory essay by philosopher Leonidas Donskis, "Initiated and Unfinished Reality," leaves little room for interpretation. First, the photographs show unfinished remnants of the totalitarian system, and second, these sketches are becoming works of art in their own right."
