Peace River Megalodon Tooth - Fossil tooth - 7 cm (No Reserve Price)

Peace River Megalodon Tooth - Fossil tooth - 7 cm (No Reserve Price)

Fossil tooth of Otodus megalodon – Miocene–Pliocene, Peace River Formation, Florida

Offered is a fully naturally preserved fossil tooth of the extinct giant shark Otodus megalodon, one of the largest predators in Earth's history. The specimen comes from the well-known Peace River Formation in southern Florida, a site that, due to its fluvial sediments, offers a particularly interesting preservation environment. Despite the typical river weathering, the tooth presented here shows an above-average preservation for these conditions.

The tooth measures 7.0 cm in length and 5.14 cm in width. Enamel, cutting edges, and root structure are fully preserved. The surface has a natural patina typical of teeth from the Peace River, without any signs of artificial alteration.

The Peace River Formation dates from the late Miocene to the early Pliocene (approximately 10–3 million years ago) and is part of a former marine coastal system, which is now exploited through fluvial processes. Finds from this area are mostly transported secondarily, making complete, undamaged specimens like this one especially desirable.
