De krab is een lid van de Xanthidae, of modderkrabben. Deze soort is gevonden in Europa, Afrika en Noord-Amerika (Texas). De moderne krabben komen vaak voor op zachte, modderige substraten waar ze putten en kleine wormen. Let op de grote klauwen en het gestructureerde schild. Meestal zouden de benen kort na de dood uiteenvallen, maar de hoofdledematen met schaten zijn aanwezig, wat zorgt voor een indrukwekkend display-exemplaar dat groot is voor het type.

The crab is a member of the Xanthidae, or mud crabs. This species has been found in Europe, Africa, and North America (Texas). The modern crabs are often found on soft, muddy substrates where they feed on small worms. Note the large claws and structured carapace. Typically the legs would disintegrate shortly after death, but the main limbs with treasures are present, making for an impressive display specimen that is large for the type.
The crab was found in Italy in the rocks of the Mediterranean Sea
