Neolithic flint Axe
Long bifacially worked axe made from the local flint of Spiennes in Belgium. Typical of the Middle Neolithic Michelsberg culture.
Beautifully white patinated with some recent cracks that show the original black color of the flint. The site of Spiennes near Mons is world-famous for its numerous flint mines and is one of the largest flint exploitations in Europe. The modern local museum is definitely worth a visit.
