- Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920) was an Italian artist best known for his distinctive portraits and nudes characterized by elongated forms and stylized features. Despite a short life marked by illness and poverty, Modigliani left an indelible mark on modern art.

Modigliani moved to Paris in 1906, where he became part of the vibrant Montmartre and later Montparnasse art scenes. France greatly influenced his artistic development, exposing him to avant-garde movements and fellow artists like Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brâncuși. Paris was where he refined his iconic style, known for its elegance and sensuality. He remained in France until his death in 1920.
