Jamie Reid - God Save the Queen (Swastika Eyes)

God Save The Queen (Swastika Eyes) limited edition print. "God Save the Queen" features the original design Reid did when he took the Cecil Beaton portrait of the Queen, tore out her eyes and mouth, put a safety pin through her lips and stuck swastikas in her eyes. This design was first submitted to A&M for the cover of the Sex Pistol’s God Save the Queen 7 and was subsequently banned leading, eventually, to it being revised. Medium: silkscreen print on thick recycled card. Edition size: 750. This auction is for the print numbered 628 of 750. Produced in 2004 by The Aquarium L-13 gallery of London. Dimensions: 35,5cm × 25 cm / 30,5cm × 21,5 cm (image size). Markings: signed and numbered with permanent silver pen on front. Condition: Stored flat, the front and the image is in mint condition. Back with marks and stains from previous frame, but front is perfect. Jamie Reid was the man who cut-and-pasted 1960’s imagery into the Punk movement of the late 70’s and responsible for the Sex Pistols legendary ‘Never Mind the Bollocks’ artwork. Reid was the forerunner of anarchistic, situationist art.
