Vol. XII of the New Series, or vol. LXV of the whole work; 85 engraved and finely, originally excellently hand-coloured plates with vibrant colours, 13 folded, and with accompanying text. This vol. contains the plants (plates and descriptions) numbered 3626-3710. One folded plate with an old repair visible on the plate verso.
No binding; bookbloc split; some light toning and offsetting, mostly from the plates to the text. Title page, dedication leaf and indexes on English (common) names, and Latin names are all accounted for. The book itself is complete.
* Curtis's Botanical Magazine is an illustrated publication which began in 1787. The longest running botanical magazine, it is widely referred to by the name Curtis's Botanical Magazine.
Each of the issues contains a description, in formal yet accessible language, and is renowned for featuring the work of two centuries of botanical illustrators.
Samuel Curtis (1779 - 1860) was an English botanist and publisher who specialised in Spermatophytes. He married the only daughter of William Curtis, founder of Curtis's Botanical Magazine,
William Jackson Hooker (1785 – 1865) was an English botanist and botanical illustrator, who became the first director of Kew in 1831.
