V. Van Dieren - Fusée mensuel pour la jeunesse - 1960

A lovely bound set of 8 issues of this magazine for young people. Published in Antwerp in French, 1960 was part of the Race for Space time in science and technology and the mustard coloured boards have a rocket launching into space. The magazine is produced under the direction of the Canons and priests of the Roman Catholic church in Belgium. The articles are clearly trying to tread a line of encouraging religious thought, whilst not being religious and putting off the young people! Mustard cloth with brown panel, and embossed rocket and titles. There is a little rubbing to the raised areas of the rocket propulsion (see photographs). The cloth is clean, and with a touch of bumping only. Inside, the 8 issues of 16 pages each are in immaculate condition. The cover various aspects of science, including aviation and flight, but also have competitions, crosswords etc. Some of the articles are aimed for at youth than science ! For example, there is a Cinema feature each month, and in October 1960, this is a two page special on the death of Clark Gable. The feature "C'est arrive hier" is a brief round up of news on a wide range of subjects (foreign politics, relition, design, religion and music are included). The final page of each issue is a cartoon style feature "Dèsastre ou progrès ?" which charts the history of Uranium. There are also short stories, a feature for young women and some religious articles. The magazine covers the period October 1960 - June 1961. It is obviously a scarce item, as we can find no copies for sale, and no auction records.
