A collection of 8 Victorian bird prints by W. Swaysland - 1903
Eight mounted original plates from "Familiar Wild Birds" by W. Swaysland, London, Cassel and Company, 1903. Illustrations by the Scottish watercolour painter Archibal Thornburn (signed on plates) and others.
Each plate shows a different species of bird.
Technique: chromolithography.
Plate size before mounting: cm. 18 X 12 (7 X 4,7 inch approx). Back of plates is blank.
Pale blue mounts.
Colours are still bright in spite of the age.
Included plates:
– Pochard
– Cuckoo
– Common Gull
- Richardson’s Skua
– Tree Sparrow
– Shoveller
– Spotted Fly-catcher
– Grasshopper Warbler
