- Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was one of Austria’s most influential modern painters and a central figure of the Vienna Secession. His work is renowned for its sensuality, symbolism, and use of elaborate decorative patterns. Klimt often explored themes of femininity, eroticism, and the cycle of life, blending realism with abstraction in a unique and instantly recognizable style. His so-called Golden Phase, where he employed gold leaf, produced masterpieces such as The Kiss, which remain icons of 20th-century art.

Klimt’s works have become some of the most valuable in the art market. Paintings like Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I have reached record-breaking sums, selling for over $135 million, placing Klimt among the most sought-after artists in the world.
