- Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was one of the most influential figures of the Viennese Secession and a pioneer of modern art. His “Golden Phase,” characterized by the lavish use of gold leaf, brought him international fame, with masterpieces such as The Kiss becoming cultural icons.
