Ceylon (brittiläinen siirtomaa) - 1. maailmansota - Diyatalawa-leiri, sotavankien leiri, sensuuri, Colombo - Postikortti (2) - 1901-1901

Lot of two genuine World War I Prisoner of War (POW) covers, British Ceylon. Both covers are authentic examples of World War I prisoner of war correspondence, sent to internees held by British authorities at Diyatalawa Camp, Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka) - one of the largest POW camps of the British Empire for German and Austro-Hungarian prisoners. Cover 1 Addressed to a prisoner of war at Diyatalawa Camp, Hut 34, Ceylon, clearly marked "Prisoner of War" on the front. The cover bears a clear oval camp censor cachet "DIYATALAWA - PASSED - CENSOR", confirming official military censorship. The envelope was opened and resealed with the original red censor label reading: "E.R. OPENED UNDER MARTIAL LAW A British 1 penny stamp is present, consistent with POW postal regulations (often free of charge). Address and markings are well legible. Cover 2 (via Colombo - double censorship) Addressed to a prisoner of war at Diyatalawa Camp, explicitly routed via Colombo. This cover is of particular interest due to its double censorship: • initial port / transit censorship at Colombo, subsequent camp censorship at Diyatalawa. It bears oval purple censor markings, evidence of opening and resealing, and the original red "Opened under Martial Law" censor label. The routing "Europe → Colombo → Diyatalawa Camp" adds postal-historical complexity and desirability. General Genuine WWI postal history items, circa 1901 Full POW and military postal context: routes, censorship, addresses Excellent material for POW Mail, Military Mail, WWI Postal History, British Empire collections Condition is consistent with wartime POW mail: opened envelopes, age-related wear - normal and expected for this type of historical material
