Japanese Firefighter’s (Tobikuchi) - Työkalu Antiikki - Edo–Meiji-kausi

This is an authentic antique Japanese Tobikuchi, a traditional firefighter’s and carpenter’s tool historically used in Japan. Tobikuchi were essential implements for hikeshi (firefighters) and craftsmen, particularly during the Edo to early Meiji periods, when wooden architecture dominated Japanese cities. The hooked iron head was designed for pulling, dismantling, and controlling burning structures, while the long wooden shaft provided reach and leverage. This example retains its original iron fittings and aged wooden handle, showing natural wear, oxidation, and patina consistent with long-term professional use. Please note that this item was originally a working tool, not intended as a weapon. Today, it is offered strictly as an antique collectible and display piece, valued for its historical and cultural significance. Condition: As expected for an antique tool, there is surface rust, wear, and age-related patina. There is slight looseness at the metal joint area due to age and long-term use. This does not affect its integrity as a display or collectible item. Dimensions: Approx. length: ~50 cm (Please refer to the photographs for detailed condition and proportions.) Intended use: Decorative or collection purposes only. Not for functional or safety-related use. Seller: Timeless Japan (Tomomi Saya), Japan Item Type: Antique/Collector’s item. Intended Use: For decorative purposes only. Complies with EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988.
