De Vez - Vase - Art Nouveau Extremely rare authentic vase by famous De Vez (Charles Camille Tutré de Varreaux)- Glassware of Pantin (France) A magnificent ovoid vase resting on a circular double-glazed base, decorated with an acid-etched lake landscape at sunset with sailboats on a bluish-gray background typical of the Nancy school and the French Art Nouveau. The decor is made of cameo glass. Embossed Cameo Signature “De Vez” (1910) The dominant colours are a pale-gray blue in the upper part and a dark purple in the lower part, with the silhouettes of the boats and waves in the darker hue. About Artist Charles Camille Tutré de Varreaux (1872-1942), who signed under the pseudonym De Vez, was appointed to manage the Pantin glassworks in 1908, replacing the elderly Stumpf, a former partner of the founder Monot, who retired in 1888, and later partnered with Touvier and Viollet. Artist was born and died in Chambéry. In 1896 he married Henriette Frémy, granddaughter of the founder of the Cristallerie de Pantin, whom he joined in 1907 as artistic director. The glassworks, a competitor to nearby Clichy and Legras, prospered under De Varreaux's watchful eye, crafting two- and three-layer cameo glass with expressive and technical designs similar to those of the Nancy School, sometimes enhanced with enamel painting. For his color rhythms, the finesse of the details and the beautiful materials he used, De Vez was noted by critics in Paris at the exhibition at the Galliéra Museum in 1910. He co-directs with Viollet by offering a new artistic orientation: vases, cups, lamps, made of multi-layer glass, engraved with the acid of ornaments. His production of vases, cups and lamps was sold mainly in department galleries, but also exported to Belgium, the Netherlands and England. Attention to the details photographs. About Artist
