His cheerful smile and plump figure symbolise abundance and joy, while the presence of the child represents prosperity and the passing of happiness to future generations. He holds a fan, a symbol believed to grant wishes, and rests upon his treasure bag which contains gifts and blessings. The expressive carving of his face and robe folds reflects the artisan’s skill in bringing warmth and vitality to the piece. Made of cast brass with a deep brown patina, the sculpture displays natural ageing including surface wear, small scratches, minor chips, dust accumulation, and areas of green rust.
