Yhden kukan maljakko - Keraaminen - Japani (Ei pohjahintaa)
This is a Japanese contemporary ceramic vase titled “Sumi-ka Kasei” (Carbonized Vase), created by the ceramic artist Yu (悠) of the studio Yuyusha, based in Gifu, Japan.
The piece was produced using a charcoal-fired (carbonization) technique, which gives the surface its distinctive deep tones, subtle metallic luster, and richly textured appearance.
Bold, hand-carved spiral patterns wrap around the form, creating a strong sculptural presence. The vase reveals different expressions depending on the angle and light, reflecting the artist’s refined sense of movement, balance, and surface.
While fully functional as a flower vase, this work is equally suited as a sculptural art object, embodying the aesthetics of contemporary Japanese ceramic art and wabi-sabi philosophy.
The vase comes with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako) and is further accompanied by the artist’s original printed career document, detailing exhibitions and awards from major Japanese ceramic art competitions during the 1980s–1990s.
Such documentation confirms the artist’s professional background and significantly enhances the collectible and archival value of this work.
