Chinese porcelain plate, marked, Kangxi period – China – early 18th Century.
On offer is a good Kangxi Period (1662-1722) “creamy white” , with a central decoration of a flower basket. This plate is executed in underglaze blue, and marked at the back with a symbol mark “ding”(incense burner) in double circle. The flower basket motif is generally associated with symbolizing longevity and abundance, but sometimes its association with one of the most enigmatic of the Eight Immortals, Lan Caihe, is overlooked. Lan Caihe was actually the patron saint of florists, whose distinguishing attribute is the flower basket! Provenance: From an old deceased private collector in North Netherlands.
