Hichōzan Fukagawa - Kannu - Posliini - Samurai Scene
A remarkable and quite large Meiji-era porcelain ewer or sculptural bottle, produced in Arita by the Hichōzan Fukagawa workshop (mark “Hichōzan Fukagawa Sei” indicates c. 1856–1875).
It features finely painted overglaze enamels in vibrant reds, blues, oranges, green, and black.
The main decoration displays two samurai engaged in combat over a central figure, while the reverse features a standing woman in rich orange and red robes.
The piece stands approximately 38.5 cm tall with the original stopper (31 cm without), measures about 16 cm in diameter.
It weighs 1,537 g—significantly oversized, making it a wonderful, sculptural exhibition piece rather than a regular bottle or flask.
In excellent antique condition, with the original fitting stopper preserved. There is minor chipping at the base of the stopper (hardly visible when fitted), but otherwise no cracks, repairs, or significant damage.
A rare Meiji-era piece—an excellent example of early Fukagawa craftsmanship and samurai narrative decoration.
Please take a good look at the photos, which are an integral part of the description.
