Koriste-esine (2) - E. E. Emanuel - Yhdistynyt kuningaskunta
A pair of decorative bronze drums, a rare matched pair, dating from the early 19th century. They are both marked on the base 'E. E. Emanuel 3 The Hard Portsea', The Hard is a historic area of Portsmouth, Hampshire, that has been the heart of British naval operations for centuries. It's the area adjacent to Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard where the Royal Navy has been based since medieval times. The address "3 The Hard, Portsea" places this drum maker right in the centre of Britain's most important naval district and so a part of British naval heritage.
Emanuel Emanuel was born in 1808 and became the first Jewish Mayor of Portsmouth in 1841 and traded as 'Jewellers, Silversmiths, Watchmakers, Diamond and Pearl Merchants by Appointment to HM the Queen and HRH the Prince of Wales.' They also operated as bullion and freight merchants and millions of coins in transit might be accommodated in their vaults.
These are genuine weighty antique pieces showing natural signs of age and use that only enhance their authentic character. The patina and gentle wear are testament to their genuine antique origins, both in good condition and the largest measuring 9.5 x 9.5cm (3.75" x 3.75").
