Walker Evans is one of the most important photographers of the 20th century and has influenced contemporary art beyond his medium until today. In 1938 the Museum of Modern Art in New York dedicated its first ever solo photography exhibition to Evans's work, and he has shaped America's image of itself particularly through his photographs of the Great Depression.
Walker Evans is famous for many great photobooks, like "American Photographs" from 1938 (Andrew Roth, The Book of 101 Books, page 98/99; Martin Parr, The Photobook, vol 1, page 114; The Open Book, Hasselblad Center, page 128/129; 802 photo books from the M.+M. Auer collection, page 263).
