Italian Mid-Century Amber Glass Kitchen Jars – Set of 9 – circa 1955–1960
Elegant set of nine Italian amber glass jars, dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1955–1960), complete with their original stoppers.
These jars were originally designed for use in kitchens, pantries and grocery shops, where amber glass was appreciated for its ability to protect contents from light exposure, making it particularly suitable for storing herbs, spices, tea, sugar and other dry ingredients.
The design is a fine example of Italian mid-century glassware.
The stoppers are marked “Plastique Alimentaire”, indicating food-safe material, while the bases are stamped “Made in Italy”, confirming their origin.
Based on form, glass quality and markings, the set is consistent with Italian industrial production from the 1950s–1960s.
Today, these jars are both functional and decorative, perfect for:
• kitchen shelves
• pantry storage
• apothecary-style interiors
• vintage, rustic or mid-century settings
The warm amber glass gives them a distinctive and refined vintage character.
Provenance
This set comes from my grandmother’s kitchen, where it was received as a wedding gift many decades ago.
She is now 89 years old, and the jars have always been carefully preserved. They were not used as everyday containers, which explains their very good overall condition and the clarity of the glass.
