EYE|Okitsu Ryosuke 沖津亮介(おきつりょうすけ)
This work depicts a Crested Kingfisher standing quietly amidst fresh greenery. The Crested Kingfisher is a relative of the Common Kingfisher living in Japan and is characterized by its black and white mottled pattern. In contrast to the delicate and precise depiction of the bird, the trees in the background are simplified, expressing the texture of a woodblock print.
Artist Profile:
Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1947. While teaching for many years, he visited mountains on holidays to observe wild birds and accumulated tens of thousands of photographs. In later years, he began creating woodblock prints. Based on his many years of observation, his main theme is to express accurate depictions of wild birds through the medium of woodblock printing.
