This chess set is a contemporary artistic creation, designed and made by Dominique Kleiner, a Norman artist, whose work is part of ongoing research around the object, sculpture and functional design.

The artist revisits the chessboard here as a territory of plastic expression, where each piece becomes a sculpture in itself. The spiral and perforated shapes of the pieces were conceived to create a sense of movement, rhythm and balance, while preserving perfect legibility of the game.

Each type of piece — king, queen, bishop, knight, rook and pawn — has its own identity, while blending into an overall harmony. Thus the game offers a fluid, elegant and contemporary visual reading, intended both for the eye and for use.

Artistic work and coloring

The pieces are cast in resin, then entirely hand-painted by the artist.
The choice of deep black and bright white is not incidental: it reinforces the graphic character of the game and underscores the purity of the sculpted volumes.

The matte and satin finishes provide subtle depth, highlighting the reliefs, the solid parts and the voids. Each piece shows slight variations, signatures of artisanal work, guaranteeing the uniqueness of each copy.
