Myyjän antama kuvaus
This evocative 19th-century oil painting depicts a seated peasant woman, a classic subject of the Italian School.
The figure is shown in traditional rural attire, featuring a voluminous white head covering and shawl that draws focus to her weathered, expressive face. She holds a long wooden staff in one hand and rests a woven basket in her lap, suggesting a life of labor and travel.
The background features a soft, atmospheric landscape with a prominent, gnarled tree trunk framing the subject. The artist uses a warm, earthy palette and textured brushwork to emphasize the humble dignity of the figure. Similar themes of Italian "folk types" were popularized by artists such as Edgar Degas and Thomas Faed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The painting exhibits some visible surface cracking (craquelure) in the paint layer, consistent with age.
The painting is framed with a high quality period gilt frame in the French Empire style, with gilt gesso decorative motives with minor losses (see photos). Please note that the painting is sold without the frame, which will be provided free of charge as a gift upon purchase.
Dimensions: 44,5cm x 34,5cm.
Framed: 60cm x 50cm x 4,5cm.
Weight: 3580 gr.
