Go Mishima (三島剛) – "Wakamono" (Young Man), 1972
Photolithograph on cream-toned paper
Signed: "Go Mishima" in the artist's hand, vertically on the left side

This work is a photolithograph from the celebrated series Mishima Gō gashū Wakamono (三島剛画集 若者 / "Mishima Go: Book of Pictures of Young Men"), published in 1972 by Daini Shobo, Tokyo. The complete portfolio comprised 24 prints, and examples from this series are now considered rare collector's items.
The composition depicts a young man in a dynamic reclining pose, wearing a loosely draped white garment. The figure is rendered with extraordinary attention to detail — particularly in the treatment of body hair and musculature — using a combination of warm ochre tones and expressive black linework that is characteristic of Mishima's mature style.
About the Artist
Go Mishima (born Tsuyoshi Yoshida, 1924–1988) is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of Japanese gay art. A close friend of the novelist Yukio Mishima, he adopted the name as a tribute. His work appeared in Barazoku, Japan's first commercial gay magazine, and he later founded his own publication, Sabu (1974). His influence on subsequent generations of Japanese illustrators remains significant, and his work has attracted renewed international attention in recent years.
Condition
Good condition overall. The cream-toned paper shows light age-related toning consistent with a work from 1972. No tears, significant staining, or restoration detected. The printed image retains strong colour and detail. Please refer to all photographs carefully before bidding.
Measurements
Please refer to the listed dimensions. Unframed.
