Descripción:
Extraordinario óleo sobre lienzo del siglo XVII que representa la iconografía devocional del Ecce Homo. Por sus características estilísticas, lumínicas y formales, la obra se adscribe plenamente a la Escuela Madrileña del pleno Barroco.
La importancia fundamental de este lienzo radica en su procedencia compositiva: se trata de una versión de devoción íntima y concentrada extraída directamente del célebre prototipo de Juan Carreño de Miranda (1614–1685), concretamente de su composición "Ecce Homo con Caifás" (Subastas Segre, 13 de diciembre de 2022, lote 63). El pintor de esta obra ha seleccionado magistralmente el busto de Cristo del maestro asturiano-madrileño, aislando la figura para potenciar la carga mística y la conexión emocional con el espectador.
A su vez, el modelo de Carreño del que deriva esta pieza hunde sus raíces en las Colecciones Reales españolas, inspirándose en el patetismo y el característico quiebro de cabeza del Ecce Homo de Tiziano, combinado con la teatralidad de las composiciones de medio cuerpo difundidas por los grabados de la escuela flamenca (círculo de Anton van Dyck).
La pintura destaca por un marcado naturalismo en el modelado del rostro de Cristo, caracterizado por una mirada de profunda serenidad contenida, ojos almendrados humedecidos por el sufrimiento y labios sutilmente entreabiertos en actitud de suspiro. El tratamiento lumínico, de herencia tenebrista, proyecta una luz dirigida que realza la anatomía del cuello, la corona de espinas trenzada y los delicados regueros de sangre, recortando la figura sobre un fondo neutro y oscuro. El cromatismo está dominado por los tonos tierra, las carnaciones pálidas y el intenso rojo de la túnica, un color cargado de simbolismo pasionario.
Estado de conservación:
Presenta un estado de conservación acorde a su antigüedad. El lienzo muestra una sutil pátina del tiempo que asienta su autenticidad. Se aprecian antiguos trabajos de restauración y un reentelado técnico estabilizador en el reverso, garantizando la perfecta conservación de la capa pictórica para el futuro.

An extraordinary 17th-century oil on canvas painting depicting the devotional iconography of the Ecce Homo. Due to its stylistic, technical, and formal characteristics, this work belongs entirely to the Madrid School of the High Baroque period.
The fundamental importance of this canvas lies in its compositional lineage: it is an intimate and concentrated version created directly from the celebrated prototype by the court painter Juan Carreño de Miranda (1614–1685), specifically from his composition "Ecce Homo with Caiaphas" (Subastas Segre, 13 de diciembre de 2022, lote 63).
The artist of this painting has masterfully selected the bust of Christ from the master’s prototype, isolating the figure to heighten the mystical emotion and strengthen the psychological connection with the viewer.
In turn, the Carreño model from which this piece derives is deeply rooted in the Spanish Royal Collections, drawing inspiration from the pathos and the characteristic tilt of the head found in Titian’s Ecce Homo, combined with the theatricality of the half-length compositions popularized throughout Europe by Flemish prints (circle of Anthony van Dyck).
The painting is remarkable for the profound naturalism in the modeling of Christ's face, characterized by an expression of deep, restrained serenity, downcast eyes heavy with sorrow, and subtly parted lips capturing a final breath. The tenebrist-influenced lighting casts a focused glow that highlights the anatomy of the neck, the woven crown of thorns, and the delicate streams of blood, contrasting the figure against a dark, neutral background. The palette is dominated by earthy tones, pale flesh tints, and the vivid red of the tunic—a color deeply symbolic of the Passion.

In good condition relative to its age. The canvas displays a subtle historic patina that certifies its authenticity. Older professional restoration work and a structural lining (reentelado) are visible on the reverse, ensuring the long-term preservation of the paint layer.
