Figuriini - Chinses Silver Belt Buckles (2) - Hopea

A rare pair of Chinese 84 silver belt buckles dating to the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912). Beautifully pierced and finely engraved, the buckles are fashioned as the Chinese characters Fu (福) and Shou (寿), enriched with elegant bamboo leaves, plum blossoms and geometric decorative motifs. In Chinese culture, Fu represents blessings, happiness, prosperity and good fortune, while Shou symbolises longevity, health and a long, fulfilling life. Together, the two characters express the traditional blessing Fu Shou Shuang Quan (福寿双全), conveying wishes for a life filled with happiness, wealth, good health and longevity.

The reverse retains the original fastening bars and hooks, confirming their intended use as a pair of belt buckles. Both buckles are struck with the ‘84’ silver standard, indicating 875-grade silver, a fineness widely used in northern China during the late Qing period. Rich in cultural symbolism and finely crafted, these buckles are excellent examples of traditional Chinese silverwork and would make an attractive addition to any collection of Chinese antiques or Asian silver.
