Original acrylic painting on paper, hand-signed by the artist and presented in its original wooden frame under glass.

This charming work depicts a reclining cat rendered with expressive brushwork and warm, layered tones of pink, red, and earthy beige. Rather than pursuing photographic realism, Sumii captures the quiet presence and gentle personality of the animal through a poetic and contemporary visual language. Condition:
The painting is in generally good condition. There is slight surface shrinkage consistent with age, but no paint loss or flaking is observed. The wooden frame shows minor age-related wear, light scratches, and slight soiling, but remains suitable for display. Please refer to the photographs for the overall condition.

Artist Profile

Sadao Sumii is a Japanese contemporary painter known for his poetic landscapes and expressive animal subjects. Working in both watercolor and acrylic, he combines delicate observation with an intuitive, painterly approach. His cat paintings are particularly appreciated for their warmth, simplicity, and expressive use of color.

Sumii has exhibited regularly at respected Tokyo galleries, including Gallery Echo-ann (Ginza) and Gallery A BIENTOT (Sumida, Tokyo), where he has held solo exhibitions as well as participated in recurring group exhibitions. His works reflect a distinctly Japanese sensitivity while embracing a contemporary artistic vocabulary, making them appealing to collectors of modern Japanese art.

The item will be shipped from Japan with a tracking number.

Depending on the destination country and the international shipping situation, the parcel will be shipped via Japan Post, Japan Post UGX, DHL, or Yamato Transport (UPS).

Since July 24, 2026, Japan Post has temporarily suspended acceptance of certain IOSS shipments. When necessary, alternative carriers such as Japan Post UGX or Yamato Transport (UPS) will be used to ensure reliable delivery.

As a result, shipping costs to some destinations may be slightly higher than usual depending on the available carrier.

Estimated delivery time is approximately 1–2 weeks, although customs clearance and local delivery conditions may cause delays.

Any import duties, VAT, customs fees, or other charges imposed by the destination country are the responsibility of the buyer.

The artwork will be carefully packed to ensure safe delivery. Recycled cardboard boxes and reusable packing materials may be used as part of our environmentally friendly packaging policy. Lightweight packaging may also be adopted when appropriate to reduce shipping costs without compromising safety.

Please note that Japan Post currently does not ship to Cyprus due to international postal restrictions affecting the Middle East region. Shipments to Cyprus will therefore be made exclusively via DHL or Yamato Transport (UPS).
