Mingei Tansu -arkku, 18 laatikkoa - Puu - Japani - 1900–2000

Item Description
This is a charming vintage Japanese mingei-style (folk craft) tansu chest, designed as a compact tabletop cabinet with an impressive eighteen small drawers arranged across five rows, plus one larger drawer at the base. Crafted from solid wood with a warm honey-toned grain, the piece is fitted with decorative black iron corner brackets and hardware on every drawer front, giving it a striking graphic, checkerboard-like appearance. Each of the smaller drawers is lined in vivid red fabric, a traditional touch often used for storing small treasures such as accessories, jewelry, sewing tools, or fishing tackle. The sides and back panels are left in plain, unadorned wood, showcasing the natural beauty of the grain, while the front is the clear visual focus of the piece. This type of multi-drawer chest, sometimes called a "kusuridansu" (medicine chest) style cabinet, was traditionally used in Japanese homes and shops for organizing small items, and today makes for a wonderfully decorative and functional storage piece with genuine folk-craft character.
