The Canon EF 50mm F2.5 Compact Macro is the lens Canon built for photographers who wanted true macro capability without carrying a dedicated macro rig. It focuses to 0.23m for 1:2 reproduction on its own, and reaches full 1:1 with the optional Life Size Converter EF. Away from close-up work it doubles as a genuinely excellent standard prime — flat-field, high-contrast and famously sharp — and it mounts on every Canon EOS body, film and digital alike.
