A Little Piece of History
José Luis Campos, Spanish Visual Artist. Born in 1948 in Galicia. Graduate of the Panamerican Institute of Art in 1974 (Buenos Aires-Argentina). Dedicated to painting from a very early age. However, only in 2020 did he venture into sculpture under the guidance of the renowned Malaga sculptor Virgilio Rodríguez. He developed techniques and concepts using recyclable materials in most works, recreating an atmosphere that captivates through the developed concept, in a constant search to balance between what is real and what is imaginable. He often captures in his works a peaceful line with certain details.
In his painting works he pays much attention to a reduced palette to render a uniform work with few details. Lover of Pre-Columbian South American cultures, in particular Peru, he has developed there several years ago a mixed Indigenist/Abstract technique which today enjoys wide acceptance among collectors. His works, in general, have been acquired by collectors in several countries such as: USA, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Ireland, Austria, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, England, China. He also has more than 25 solo and group exhibitions internationally, in addition to diplomas of honor, nominations, prizes and recognitions, art books, press and television. For example the book “Historias de Pintores” by the prominent Malaga writer Joaquín Palmerola, the art book Itaca published in Soria Spain, contemporary art 2003 Sevilla Art Fair among others. José Luis Campos signs his paintings by hand on the front and back of the work, in addition to delivering an authenticity certificate to the buyer. It is almost a challenge to describe this multifaceted artist, as he prefers viewers to form their own conclusions about his work. For Campos, a work is a struggle between the artist and the canvas; one knows where it begins, but never where it ends.
