Tatiana Cardellicchio - Botanical Totem

In Botanical Totem, the body assumes the solemn presence of a ritual figure. The bark becomes a dress and a second skin, while the flowers pass through the figure and obscure its gaze, constructing a new identity suspended between human and vegetal. Nature does not accompany the body: it transforms it into an archaic symbol of beauty, protection and power.

THE SERIES

The work belongs to the series “Diktatura dei petali – The Aesthetic Regime”, a biographical and conceptual photographic project by Tatiana Cardellicchio.

In the series, the flowers — traditionally associated with grace, femininity and decoration — transform into devices of control. Through carefully constructed self-portraits, the artist investigates the pressure exerted on the female body by aesthetic ideals and the constant demand to monitor, correct and shape one’s image.

The project explores the tension between imposed identity and image, seduction and coercion, intimacy and spectacle, conformity and resistance. The face is often hidden or replaced by flowers: beauty thus ceases to be a simple ornament and takes the shape of a regime.

Giclée fine art print on premium satin paper 270 g/m² with Epson UltraChrome HD pigment inks, chosen for color intensity, tonal depth and long-term stability.

Edition limited to 20 copies in this format. Each copy is signed and hand-numbered on the back.

The work comes with an authenticity certificate, hand-stamped and signed by the artist, attesting to its provenance and belonging to the stated edition.

Bio

Tatiana Cardellicchio on italialainen visuaalinen taiteilija ja valokuvaaja, jonka katse ammentaa Etelä-Italian valosta, muuntaen sen runolliseksi aineeksi. Hänen tutkimuksensa käsittelee kehon, identiteetin, luonnon ja katseen välistä suhdetta ja keskittyy siihen, miten identiteetti muovautuu, verhoutuu ja neuvotellaan esteettisten koodien kautta.

Hän valmistui valokuvauksesta Italian Photography Institute -laitoksessa, ja rakentaa tarinoita, jotka ovat estetiikan ja tietoisuuden välissä. Itsekuvan kautta ja rakentujen kohtausten kautta hän käyttää kehoa Subjectsina ja aineena, muuttaen valokuvasta tutkimuksen tilan enemmän kuin pelkän esityksen.

Vuonna 2026 hän sai myös voiton Motif Collective Photo Contest – Reflection -kilpailussa.
