Ancient Orthodox icon representing the biblical feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ on Mount Tabor. In the upper plane, Christ appears glorified and flanked by the figures of prophets Moses (holding the Tablets of the Law) and Elijah. In the lower register, the composition details the three apostles — Peter, James and John — prostrated on the ground and overwhelmed by the awe before the revelation of divine light. Hagiographic inscriptions in Cyrillic/Church Slavic identify the characters at the top and in the center.

Tempera and gilding on a solid wood panel.

The panel presents an irregularly cut shape in the upper zone (architectural), a clear sign that it originally formed part of the Feast tier of a monumental iconostasis in a church.

Shows natural wear to the polychromy and patina consistent with the age of the piece. Marginal losses of levkas (preparation plaster) at the panel edges and slight cracks or restorations from the period in the wood, which do not compromise the visual integrity of the central painting.

Accompanies an official document from Estonia authorizing the legal export of cultural property, issued by the Civil Heritage Protection Board. The presence of this official document is a major advantage for the auction, as it proves provenance and legality of the icon’s export.
