Catawiki Live: klassinen ja nykytaide (Havisham & Co.)

Hiljainen, taipuva asetelma, keskittyen lasiin maitoa, napautettuna kypsillä luumilla, aseteltuna syvän varjoisan taustan vasten. Leimuavan valkoinen maito

A quiet still life centred on a glass of milk, accompanied by ripe plums arranged against a deep, shadowed background. The luminous white of the milk immediately draws the eye, while the transparent glass creates delicate reflections and subtle distortions of light.

The composition is intimate and restrained, allowing the ordinary beauty of the objects to take centre stage. The warm tones of the plums contrast beautifully with the cool luminosity of the glass, while the dark setting gives the scene a sense of depth and stillness. Visible brushwork adds a tactile quality to the fruit and surrounding shadows.

There is a strong sense of traditional still life painting here, approached with a contemporary sensitivity to light and atmosphere. The careful observation of everyday objects, together with the softly impressionist handling of highlights and reflections, gives the work a timeless character. A compelling piece for collectors of still life, figurative painting and contemporary artists working within classical painting traditions.

Emmanuelle Capatos

Born in 2000, Emmanuelle Capatos is a British painter working in the tradition of classical oil painting.

While studying Theatre and French for her Bachelor of Arts, Capatos experienced a decisive calling towards painting in 2020, subsequently redirecting her path towards the study and practice of traditional oil painting. She completed her atelier training at The Glasgow Academy of Fine Art in 2024, where she later worked as an assistant teacher, studio manager and Anatomy Instructor.

Capatos’ practice explores the relationship between material realism and deeper symbolic meaning. Drawing upon the visual traditions of ancient Egypt, Greece and Mesopotamia, she is interested in the enduring language of symbolism and narrative, and in the ways painting can engage with human nature and the spiritual dimensions of everyday life.

Through the discipline of traditional oil painting, Capatos seeks to reveal the beauty and significance present in the world around us.
