Impressive pure silk double bedspread in large size from the late 1800s to early 1900s in the Luigi Filippo style. Given its ample measurements, it consists of two silk panels sewn together on the inside and only a central line is visible, but nothing detracts from its beauty. They were sewn so well that the embroidery and designs align perfectly. A detail that becomes noticeable only upon close approach. Historically it was common to sew fabrics for different uses, differentiating them. In terms of color, the background is sky blue while the embroidered designs are gold. It is all a embroidery, with circles worked with outer lines to enrich it, with a flower at the center. Below, there are embroideries like leaves of a willow tree. It is all a geometric work with these designs placed asymmetrically, one high and one low. It is not the classic damask, but embroidery with designs set as if it were a tapestry. This treatment also continues on the two side parts and at the foot of the bed. It is generously proportioned, precisely because antique beds were taller; in fact, my bed, which even though from the 1700s has modern slats, reaches to the floor. It measures 246 cm in length and 255 cm in width, to which a 14 cm fringe is added, making it fit a bed perfectly. A straight, simple fringe that echoes the colors of the bedspread. It was made for my family precisely for the beauty of the colors and the type of silk, but it is evident that it has been used very little because the silk is in excellent condition as is the fringe. They used to have a lot of linens made, thinking of the dowry to give to their children, and given the large number of bedspreads I found many never used. The fact that it has two small stains typical of cashmere (I photographed them) shows its age and demonstrates that it is an antique bedspread, but they do not detract from its beauty. Of great value is the pure silk used. I therefore wrote “good condition” precisely because of these two stains; otherwise it is in excellent condition. My ancestors placed great importance on the home and loved renewing the curtains, always having linens made that expressed beauty and refinement. It is of large measurements, including the fringe, because as I already wrote, ancient beds were taller, so it fits a bed perfectly reaching to the floor. It is part of the dowry I inherited, and given the large number of bedspreads in various fabrics and colors, I am selling many so they may have a new life. Given its ample dimensions, I also used it as a sofa cover, due to the beauty of its colors, and as a table cover laid against the wall, reaching to the floor, with a white embroidered one on top to display the designs. It easily matches the colors, fabrics, and curtains of a house. Beautiful to use on an antique bed to highlight its importance, but it also stands out on a simple modern bed. Indeed, it would give a touch of elegance and refinement. It easily fits with a classic or modern decor. When an object is beautiful, one always finds a use for it. One only needs imagination and especially to love the furnishings of the home in which one lives. Every home, in fact, reflects the taste and refinement of its inhabitants. The buyer will decide how to use it. I ship with a private courier and not the post, so it arrives sooner and has double packaging and simpler communication. Given its measurements, the bedspread will be shipped wrapped in thousands of bubbles and placed in a box to maximize protection. Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, zone one or two such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern European countries and zone three such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and rest of the world. Customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
