Please note that shipping costs will be higher than before, and we appreciate your understanding. 【Product details】 This elegant lidded food container (jikirō), created by the 9th generation Nishimura Hikohei of Heian Zohiko, is a round vessel traditionally used to hold food. In the tea ceremony, such containers are especially used as sweets containers, presenting seasonal confections to guests. The piece is finished in bright vermilion lacquer and decorated with a delicate net motif rendered in gold maki-e. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs, creating both visual richness and textural depth. Heian Zohiko is a long-established lacquerware house in Kyoto, founded in 1661 (Kanbun 1). The 9th generation Nishimura Hikohei succeeded to the name in 1965, producing both traditional furnishings and works for the gift market, while also recreating masterpieces to preserve the skills of Kyoto lacquerware. His achievements include contributing lacquer finishing to the throne in the new Imperial Palace and taking part in the preparation of sacred treasures for the 62nd rebuilding (shikinen sengū) of Ise Grand Shrine. The underside bears the Zohiko workshop’s maki-e mark, designed in the style of a seal. The original wooden box also carries Nishimura’s inscription and seal. There are minor scuffs and some discolouration on the aluminium parts, but otherwise the piece remains in very fine condition. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx.
