Editor Ellen Fries, one of the founders of the magazine Purple that dominated the fashion world in the 90s. The project she started with her partner Olivier Saum launched the popularity of collection brands like Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf, and led to the rise of artistically inclined photographers like Wolfgang Tillmans and Marc Boswick. Originally the daughter of a gallery owner, Ellen was grounded in “contemporary art.” For her and Olivier, it was perhaps not the conventional “approach from fashion to art,” but rather an “approach from art to fashion” that became one of the elements producing such unique work. This work features Ellen as editor, Nobuyuki Ooishi as designer, Christophe Brunnquell (who also served as art director at Purple), Mark Borthwick, Anders Edstrom, and Camille Vivier.
