Such figures were often carved as temple ornaments, embodying beauty, music, and divine grace. The figure is shown holding a stringed instrument resembling a veena, wearing elaborate jewellery and an ornate headdress. The expressive face, delicate posture, and flowing form are characteristic of South Indian temple carvings from the Tamil Nadu or Karnataka regions. Traces of old red, yellow, and green pigments remain visible on the surface, reflecting the vibrant polychrome finish it once had. The sculpture is mounted on a modern black wooden board fitted with a wire for hanging, allowing it to be displayed as a wall-mounted art piece. There are several wood chips on the sculpture, missing left foot, areas of paint fading, and small losses on the edges consistent with age. The black board shows a large crack on the front and some small paint chips on its surface. A beautiful and spiritually evocative example of Indian temple craftsmanship, suitable as both a cultural artefact and decorative wall display. Dimensions: approx. H 65.5 cm W 23.8 cm D 12 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
