A Rare Late Ming Ko-Sometsuke ‘Rabbit and Moon’ Dish, Tianqi Period (1621–1627)
Delicately potted with a foliate rim, painted in vibrant cobalt blue with a central medallion depicting a seated hare gazing at the moon amid grass, encircled by a band of stylized waves and blossoms. The cavetto with alternating floral and landscape panels beneath a blue-glazed rim. The reverse bears an apocryphal Chenghua nian zhi mark within double circles.
A poetic and charming design from the Tianqi period, representing one of the most engaging motifs of late Ming export porcelain.
No Hair lines, restoration or cracks, just some rim fritting as expected of late Ming porcelain.
This dish was made in Jingdezhen around 1623 to be exported to Japan and was used in tea ceremonis.
Provonance: lot of six dishes at Duran Arte sep 2023, not sold.Again in Marts 2024 and not sold. Appears with a lot of three dishes ,two of them I hold now, it was at Christies Paris dec 2024 not sold. Aquried by me at auction august 2025.
