Naoko Takeuchi is the Japanese manga artist behind Sailor Moon, one of the most influential magical-girl series of all time. Her work is known for its elegant character designs, romantic themes, and the fusion of shōjo aesthetics with action-oriented storytelling.
“Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon” is based on her landmark series, first serialized between 1991 and 1997 in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine. This poster (50 × 70 cm) dates from 1997, produced under license from Kodansha and edited by 1000 Editions, with printing done in Spain.
Takeuchi originally conceived Sailor Moon after working as a shrine maiden during her youth, an experience that inspired the mix of mythology, symbolism, and female empowerment that defines the series. Many of the planetary motifs and magical items in Sailor Moon were sketched directly by Takeuchi herself, reflecting her background in chemistry and astronomy.
