Kashmiri - Qur'an for the Nawab Amiu Khau. - 1727

A fine and rare manuscript page from a incomplete Qur'an, scribed for the "Nawab Amiu Khau" an 18th-century Indian Nawab (ruler or governor), and known for commissioning this highly valuable and finely crafted manuscript of the Quran in 1727. As a Royal work it is of the highest quality and of a size which its owner could hold without difficulty. the work was executed in Kashmir. The folio contains the final verses of Chapter 89 Al-Fajr (The Dawn and the Surah and first two verses of Chapter 90 Al Balad (The City), where God swears to the Prophet Muhammad that he is a citizen if the city, referring to Mecca. The final eight verses of chapter 89 shown here, explain the bad news that awaits the deniers when on the Day of Judgement the Lord and rank upon rank angels, will judge the people and where they will remember their sins, and offer good news to the faithful in that they will 'enter God's Paradise'. The red commentary in the margin next to the final verse re-emphasises this statement by adding, 'and it was said'. The folio is scribed in bold 'nashki' black ink on thin paper. It contains eight (8) lines of scripture, with the verses indicated by simple gold 'aya', and is divided 3/4 of the way down by a beautiful SurHijrah heading scribed in white Thuluth within a gold cartouche, inside an elaborate decorative frame. The lower left decorative marginal in gold indicates the change of Chapter. Diacritical markings in red provide devotional guidance to the reader. The folio is in good condition, with the exception of a repair made on the reverse which has affected the central aya of the folio (image 5c). Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
