In this lot, we offer two Tsugaru lacquerware - two Suzuribako. Refined powerful Tsugaru lacquerware - Suzuribako designed with exquisite and elegant patterns, very smooth and durable, small and shiny mother of pearls are also inlaid with the lacquer by excellent workmanship. The vibrant colors of layered lacquer and modern black create a powerful lacquerware that combines durability and elegance. Tsugaru lacquerware is made in the area around Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture. Lacquerware has been produced in this region since the mid-Edo period, but it is said that the term Tsugaru lacquerware first came into use when the lacquerware was exhibited at the Vienna World Exposition in 1873 (Meiji 6). Today, it is used as a general term for traditional lacquerware made in the Tsugaru region. Tsugaru lacquerware is characterized by its durability and high practicality, while also having a very elegant appearance. Using a unique technique called "Togidashi Kawari Nuri," beautiful patterns made from multiple layers of colored lacquer emerge. The base, made from Tsugaru cypress, is repeatedly coated with lacquer dozens of times and polished, and the process takes about two months to create beautiful, strong, and thick lacquerware. A variety of techniques were developed during the Edo period, and some of the techniques that are still used today include "karanuri," a typical example of Tsugaru lacquerware, "nanako lacquerware," which is characterized by a small-patterned pattern, "monsha lacquerware," which has a chic impression and uses charcoal powder and black lacquer, and "nishiki lacquerware," which requires advanced skills.
