Hōōsha Goryōkō no Zu (鳳凰車御臨幸之図) Ukiyo-e - Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延,1838–1912) - Japani - Meiji-kausi (Ei pohjahintaa)

Artwork Title: Hōōsha Goryōkō no Zu (鳳凰車御臨幸之図) Ukiyo-e Artist: Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延,1838–1912) Technique: Woodblock Print Artist’s signature on the plate lPaper Size: 37 × 50 cm (14.6 × 19.7 in) (combined width of two panels) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) Publisher: Jujun’en (壽春園) This two-panel ukiyo-e woodblock print set (originally a triptych) was created by Toyohara Chikanobu (豊原周延,alias Yōshū Chikanobu 楊洲周延), a preeminent ukiyo-e artist of the Meiji period (明治時代) in Japan. It was published by Jushun'en (壽春園) in December 1890 (the 23rd year of the Meiji era, 明治二十三年). The composition focuses on the imperial procession of Emperor Meiji/the imperial family: the imperial household traveled on the Hōōsha (鳳凰車) (a Western-style carriage), passing through Nijubashi Bridge in front of the Tokyo Imperial Palace. On the right stands an elaborately decorated enclosed carriage, with figures inside dressed in Western-style formal attire; on the left are mounted and foot guards in Western-style military uniforms. Elements such as the Western-style bridge and buildings in the background directly reflect the Bunmei Kaika (文明开化) social atmosphere after the Meiji Restoration, vividly embodying the collision and integration of Eastern and Western cultures of the era. This woodblock print has a 135-year history. Due to its age, the washi paper shows signs of oxidation and yellowing, mold spots, creases, as well as insect damage and tears, yet its overall condition remains good. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
