British Yachting Panel – “Alarm” Wins the King’s Cup, 1831
This Circa 1900's century British maritime panel depicts the yacht “Alarm”, owned by Joseph Weld, winning the King’s Cup on 27th August 1831, one of the earliest documented competitive yacht races in British history.
The panel is executed as a hand-coloured engraving mounted on a wooden support with original painted black and gilt borders. The reverse retains its original green textile backing and period printed label, confirming its historic provenance.
Such panels were produced for affluent collectors and aristocratic interiors, sometimes as decorative wall pieces or as fitted elements within fine furniture or maritime cabinets.
Condition:
Original, unrestored condition with visible age-related wear, losses to the gilt border and surface marks consistent with nearly 200 years of age. No modern interventions.
Period: circa 1900's
Origin: United Kingdom
Material: wood, printed and hand-coloured paper, original textile backing
A rare and evocative survivor from the early history of British yachting and royal regatta culture.
